Who
edits the Guide?
Godfrey King, has been Editor and
Publisher of the Southern Africa Conference, Exhibition & Events
Guide since 1978.After initially studying law, he turned to
journalism as a profession in 1960. He has been a publisher
since 1978 .
He has been involved in the South
African conference industry since 1978, when he started editing
the conference journal known today as the Southern Africa
Conference, Exhibition & Events Guide, and has been able to view
and gain extensive knowledge of the development of the industry.
Godfrey King is a founder member
of the Southern African Association for the Conference Industry
(SAACI), which was formed in 1987, and is the representative
body for the conference industry in Southern Africa. He was
national chairman of SAACI for five consecutive years.
A conference organiser in his own
right, he has been responsible for two annual conferences for a
national association since 1985. The importance of this is that,
apart from being a commentator on the industry, he is actively
involved in conference work and thus knows what he is writing
about.
He is also, in his personal
capacity, a member of the board of the Southern Africa Chapter
of the Society of Incentive & Travel Executives (SITE).
In 1997 he was elected by SAACI as
the first recipient of the Association’s "Personality of the
Year" trophy, which was awarded to him as the person who had
made the greatest contribution to the conference industry.
In 1998 he was voted "Personality
of the Year" by the Southern African Chapter of the Society of
Incentive and Travel Incentives (SITE) for his work in promoting
the incentive travel industry. Once again, he was the first
recipient of this award
In 2002 he was given a ‘Fellowship
Award’ by SAACI, which is made for exceptional service to the
Association.
